One of the ways God has shown himself to me is as Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides. Years ago, my family and I moved to the United States as missionaries. We left behind everything we had in the country of Mauritius and came to Hannibal, Missouri with nothing but God’s clear calling. Once we arrive, a house was suddenly provided for us and people who did not even know us donated furniture and furnishings for our new home.
That is not the only thing God has blessed and provided us with. Fast forward a few years to where my brother is in college; he accidentally hurt himself and had to go to the hospital, which cost us a lot of money that we did not have. We trusted in God through the whole situation and my parents firmly believed in the God who provides. A couple weeks later, we got a letter from the hospital that stated our bill was cancelled and we did not have to pay for anything. If you think that is crazy, there is more.
This happened more than once; my mom got sick and had to go to the hospital which meant another overwhelmingly high bill that we could not pay, but again our Jehovah-Jireh did what He does best. God has provided in our lives time and time again.
This God that provided in so many ways did much more than just physical needs that we had. There was not one day that God did not provide us with his wisdom, love, or peace during difficult times. I remember when we had a revival meeting in Mauritius. Out of nowhere hindu extremists came with weapons and were trying to disrupt the service and threatening everyone who was inside, but instead of crumbling into fear, we started worshipping our hearts out, knowing that God would take care of the situation. Soon after, as we were worshipping, the peace of God showed up and the extremists backed down as the people of God kept worshipping our amazing God more and more.
Though we often do not get what we want when we want it, our God loves to provide what we need when we need Him. Seeing God provide time and time again has taught me to remain steadfast in believing God. Though I often feel overwhelmed in many situations, though I often feel like so much of life is beyond me, it’s good to know that I rest in the care of my Jehovah-Jireh.
We should be focused on doing His will no matter the price of our mission because when we put Him and His will before anything in our lives, He is faithful. God will always be with us when we follow him and when we cry out in need of Him. God is a provider, it’s a part of who He is. Therefore, may we rest in these words of scripture together: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)Joysen, wow! This is a powerful testimony about God’s active protection and care. He is a good, good father and we’re loved by him. In good times and in tough times, praise Him from whom all blessings flow!
